HVAC fundamentals Location: Salt Lake City, Utah & Tempe, Arizona Position Summary The Mechanical Engineering Student Intern provides technical and design support to mechanical engineering teams involved in the planning and design of building systems. This position offers hands-on exposure to HVAC system design, BIM coordination, construction documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration within the AEC consulting environment. The internship is designed to support academic learning while developing practical engineering consulting skills and professional experience. Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design Support Assist in preparing mechanical design drawings and documentation for building projects. Support the development of HVAC system layouts, including ductwork distribution, piping coordination, and equipment placement. Assist engineers with load calculation support tasks, equipment research, and design data organization. Help review drawings for coordination and constructability considerations. BIM Modeling & Technical Production Assist in developing and updating Revit models and AutoCAD drawings in accordance with company standards. Support updates to construction document packages during schematic design, design development, and construction phases. Organize project files and maintain drawing accuracy. Project Coordination Exposure Participate in internal project meetings and multidisciplinary coordination sessions. Observe collaboration between architectural, electrical, structural, and technology teams. Assist with research related to codes, standards, equipment selection, and energy efficiency strategies. Construction Administration Exposure Support review of contractor submittals and RFIs under supervision. Participate in site visits or field observations when appropriate. Required Qualifications Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering Completion of at least sophomore or junior-level coursework preferred Basic understanding of: thermodynamics and fluid mechanics HVAC fundamentals engineering design principles Familiarity with: Microsoft Office exposure to Revit or AutoCAD preferred Preferred Qualifications Prior internship or cooperative education experience in engineering, construction, or building systems environments Exposure to HVAC load calculation tools or energy modeling concepts Strong interest in building systems consulting and sustainable design Key Competencies Eagerness to learn and accept feedback Attention to detail and organizational skills Team collaboration and communication Problem-solving mindset Professionalism and accountability Industry: Engineering Employment Type: Part-time Location: Salt Lake City, Utah & Tempe, Arizona Experience Level: Intern #J-18808-Ljbffr
